My aim was to increase audience and volunteer attendance for the Konnect Konference, a three day film & commercial production networking and workshop event through impactful graphic design and marketing expertise. The event took place in Roxbury, MA where a majority of the POCs reside in Boston but weren't aware of the abundance of film production jobs that take place in the New England area even if they we're hungry for theopportunity. Being in a similar boat 6 years ago, I knew exactly who my audience was and where to reach them online and in person.
The Secret Society of Black Creatives (SSBC) promotes and empowers filmmakers of color through networking, education, advocacy, and job referrals. The Konnect Konference connects individuals to career opportunities in the film and television industry in Boston and foster a healthy and collaborative creative community.
Revamping the marketing strategy to effectively communicate the conference's mission and opportunities was essential. So I had to do field research on the types of posts from large scale networking and film festivals that performed well on each social media platform utilizing their specific features like the Instagram link sticker to create a seamless funnel from story viewer to event registrant. It was also critical to to instill a hype cycle and get a sense of urgency for a free event.
I provided comprehensive graphic design and marketing services, creating visually compelling social media graphics and leveraging Adobe Express's social media insight tools. My approach involved crafting visuals that were both eye-catching and informative, ensuring they captured the attention of the target audience. The strategy also included targeted social media campaigns designed to maximize reach and engagement. I worked closely with Evelyn Brito, Jessica Estelle-Huggins, & Malik Willams to fully capture the essence of the event and tailor the design to include various key sponsors and partners in an equitable fashion.
The campaign led to a noticeable increase in engagement and participation, helping SSBC connect more individuals to the film industry and strengthen their community network. From the volunteer post alone, we were able to capture 10 in one week who were not aware of the festival until the post went live. The Konnect Konference not only achieved its goals but also set a new standard for future events.
Thank you so much for stepping up to help out, Rayviation! With our minds on organizing the event having a volunteer with an expertise in strategizing and designing put the board's minds at ease. We'll call you in earlier for the next one!
My experience with the Secret Society of Black Creatives has been defined by growth. Growth of my production knowledge with free workshops at the Konnect, growth in my network with a variety of amazing creative professionals and genuine friendships at various meetups, and growth of my expectations for SSBC as they continue to set high goals and reach those achievements. There is so much to gain from being a part of SSBC's mission and membership that I firmly stand by the belief that they are the premiere film & music networking organization to join in Massachusetts!
